Calendars 2027: paper is back – 5 design trends for a modern calendar
The more screens and virtual worlds surround us, the more we value things we can hold in our hands. In 2027, paper is back in fashion.
A company calendar hangs on a client’s wall or stands on their desk for a whole year. It is also part of the interior. That is why it pays to choose a design nobody is tired of by February.
Why a paper calendar
A digital calendar reminds you of what is coming up next. A paper calendar shows a whole month, or three, at once, and everyone in the room can see it. A deadline on the wall does not disappear behind other windows or get lost among notifications.
In a 2021 University of Tokyo study, participants wrote down appointments on paper, on a tablet or on a smartphone. Those using paper finished the task about 25% faster, and an hour later the areas of their brain linked to memory and language were more active. The researchers’ explanation was that on paper every entry has a fixed place you can picture later: the top row of the month or the left edge of the page. When a goal is written in the calendar and the calendar hangs in plain sight, you are reminded of it every time you look at it.
A promotional calendar works the same way for the sender. According to a 2023 ASI study, 62% of people who receive a promotional calendar use it for at least a year, and during that time they see it around 673 times. On a screen everything changes within seconds; a calendar on the wall stays put. It is one of the few adverts a client chooses to look at every day.
Below are five design trends in 2027 calendars. Each one comes with notes on how to use it in your own company calendar.
Trend 1
Large sheets that decorate the wall
A calendar is no longer just a tool. A large sheet with a good image or colour hangs on the wall all year like a poster, except that it changes every month. That is why calendars are increasingly chosen by how they look in the room.
Colour
The central idea of Pantone’s 2027 home and interior palettes is a breather from a noisy world: muted mid-tones, earthy greens and browns, and warm reddish browns. That is a good starting point for a calendar, because you see it every day and a busy palette becomes tiring. Another option is to give each month its own colour that changes with the seasons. It gives the calendar a rhythm, and the month is recognisable from across the room.
In your calendar
The poster calendar has 12 sheets of 297×297 mm, and each month has its own background colour, from grey-blue in January to orange in December. The A3 wall calendar gives every month a large picture. On the UNO and the A4 saddle-stitched calendar we print the calendar grid in your brand colours, free from 100 copies.

Trend 2
Big numbers and lettering at the centre
One of the biggest trends for 2027 is large type. The month name and the dates carry the design, with few pictures or none at all. In an office this is also practical, because a calendar has to be readable from the other side of the room.
In your calendar
TRIO shows three months, with the current month large in the middle. In the A3 wall calendar templates the month name is set in large type, with holidays and week numbers marked.
Trend 3
Paper you can touch
The smoother screens become, the more we value a surface we can feel. Matt or textured paper shows that something was actually made. You can write on uncoated paper with a pencil, so the calendar holds notes as well as dates.
In your calendar
For the A3 wall calendar, choose “Writable – matt paper 250 g” or recycled fibre paper. The A4 saddle-stitched calendar comes in 120 g uncoated and 120 g recycled fibre paper.

Trend 4
Old illustration in a new frame
The 2027 range of the German calendar publisher Ackermann features plenty of science and nature imagery: botanical drawings, old atlas plates and Japanese woodcuts. The old image gets an airy, contemporary layout, and the calendar keeps more empty space.
In your calendar
The “Baltic Sea Fish” template for the A4 saddle-stitched calendar shows one fish per month in the style of an old fish atlas, surrounded by seaweed, shells and stones. Add your logo and text in the online studio.
Trend 5
Your own story and your own pictures
Stock photos look the same everywhere. Your own team, products, workplace, local nature or city make the calendar instantly recognisable and give the client a reason to put it on the wall.
In your calendar
The A3 and A4 wall calendars can be made from your own photos. Design them in the online studio on the product page or upload a finished file.

Prompts
Create calendar images with AI
If you have no photos of your own, you can create calendar images with ChatGPT, Gemini or Midjourney. Replace the parts in square brackets with your own details. Every prompt includes the format, because the image for a calendar page has to be landscape and in the right proportions.

Calm abstract composition for a wall calendar page. Soft organic shapes in [brand colour HEX], sage green, clay brown and cream. Subtle paper texture, plenty of space, no text. Landscape format, 3:2 aspect ratio.
Create a series of 12 images for a wall calendar, one for each month. The same style and composition in every image, with the colour changing through the seasons: January cold grey-blue, summer warm green, autumn reddish brown, December deep orange. No text, landscape format, 3:2 aspect ratio.
Rough, fibrous paper texture in [colour], empty centre, soft shading towards the edges. No text, landscape format, 3:2 aspect ratio. Add the month name and dates later in the online studio.
[Plant, fish or bird] in the style of a 19th-century scientific atlas plate: fine line drawing, watercolour tones, aged cream paper, surrounded by [background: seaweed, leaves, branches]. No text, landscape format, 3:2 aspect ratio.
Edit the attached photos into a consistent calendar series: the same light, a warm and soft tone, the same colour treatment. Do not change faces, product shapes or logos. Landscape format, 3:2 aspect ratio.

The design is what people remember, but a calendar stays on the wall only if it is easy to use. Choose the format by where the calendar will hang or stand.
